Mount Washburn: Yellowstone National Park

View On The Way Up

Amazing View From The Lookout.....Hazy In The Picture

Topping Out At 10,243 Feet!

A Little Bit Of Exposure Heading To The Top

After our excursion at the Grand Canyon we set off on our most challenging hike of the trip. We parked at the Mount Washburn Trailhead parking lot north of Canyon Village off the Grand Loop Road. The trail was a double wide dirt road for the entire 3 mile length. We gained 1,500 feet of elevation, after our hiking at the Grand Canyon it felt like more. There are a few gradual switchbacks on this trail but for the most part it is a steady climb the entire length. The views of the Yellowstone Area are phenomenal the entire hike. Once we got to the lookout you get 360 degree Panorama shots at the entire Valley. Even though we hiked through prime Grizzly Bear country to get there I would do it again in a heartbeat. If you only have 1 chance to hike in the backcountry of Yellowstone this would be my recommendation.
If You Look Close You Will See The Lookout We Hiked Too
